Travis Scott arrested in Paris after hotel fight with his bodyguard
Travis Scott, the rapper, was apprehended in Paris early on Friday, August 9, following an altercation with his bodyguard, according to French authorities. The Paris prosecutor's office confirmed, "On August 9, 2024, police officers were called to the George V hotel and arrested the rapper known as Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard. The security guard intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard." The case has been referred to the 1st district of the judicial police for investigation.
Authorities responded to the incident at the luxury George V hotel around 5 a.m. local time, as reported by CNN. A police spokesperson stated that Scott was arrested for "violence against another person."
Witnesses placed Scott, real name Jacques Bermon Webster II, in Paris the previous day, attending the men's basketball semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside rapper Quavo.
This is not Scott's first brush with the law. In June, he was arrested in Miami for trespassing on property and disorderly intoxication. According to his attorney, Bradford Cohen, "Mr. Scott was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding with no physical altercation involved. We appreciate the authorities' cooperation towards a swift resolution." A source informed Us Weekly that the incident in Miami was minor and no further action was expected.
Scott shares two children, daughter Stormi, 6, and son Aire, 2, with Kylie Jenner. He was previously involved in a significant legal ordeal following the tragic events at his Astroworld Festival in Houston in November 2021, where 10 fans lost their lives and more than 100 were injured. While Scott did not face criminal charges after a Texas grand jury decision in June 2023, he settled 10 civil wrongful death lawsuits as reported by the Associated Press in May.
Scott appeared to be enjoying his time in Paris prior to the arrest, having been spotted courtside during the U.S. men's basketball team's semifinal victory. The timing of the arrest was noteworthy as it occurred just hours after prosecutors in Miami dropped a disorderly intoxication charge from a previous incident. Attempts to contact Scott's representatives for comment have gone unanswered.
