Burglaries of Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes Possibly Linked to Transnational Criminal Organization
The FBI and local law enforcement are investigating burglaries targeting prominent athletes, including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. Reports from NBC News indicate that authorities are looking into potential connections to a transnational crime ring, particularly one stemming from South America. Officials have not yet identified the burglars, making this investigation ongoing.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, information noted by ABC News suggests that a local culprit cannot be entirely ruled out. They mentioned that it is "very easy" to anticipate that athletes like Kelce, 35, and Mahomes, 29, would likely be away from home on game days.
Earlier this month, the media reported the robberies occurred within 48 hours of each other. Mahomes’ residence in Belton, Missouri, was compromised shortly after midnight on October 6. The next day, Kelce’s home in Leawood, Kansas, was hit while the Chiefs played the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium. Police reports reveal that approximately $20,000 was stolen from Kelce's home, where a rear door was forcibly broken.
Currently, Travis Kelce has yet to publicly address the robberies. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes shared his feelings during a November 13 press conference. He expressed frustration, stating, "It’s disappointing. … [It’s] not something you want to happen to anybody, but especially yourself."
Mahomes was unable to disclose specifics about the ongoing investigation, including whether he and his wife, Brittany, were home with their children during the break-in.
Recently, the Milwaukee Bucks forward, Bobby Portis, experienced a break-in at his Wisconsin home on November 10. ABC News indicates that this incident shows potential similarities to the break-ins of Kelce and Mahomes. The September burglary of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley's home may also be relevant, as it occurred while he attended a nearby Minnesota Vikings game.
Indeed, investigators are exploring various leads and collecting evidence concerning all potential suspects, both local and beyond. However, the Leawood Police Department has refrained from commenting on ongoing investigations. "Our agency follows up on all leads and works closely with victims to solve open cases," they stated. "We are dedicated to ensuring the City of Leawood remains one of the safest cities in Kansas."
