Carmelo Anthony’s Son Kiyan Chooses Syracuse, Strives for Individual Legacy

Carmelo Anthony's 17-year-old son, Kiyan Anthony, has made the significant decision to follow in his father's footsteps by committing to Syracuse University, US Weekly reported. On the November 15 episode of Carmelo's "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast, Kiyan announced his decision, expressing that choosing a college was a difficult process. He ultimately selected Syracuse over Auburn and USC, drawn to the same program that celebrated Carmelo as a standout freshman during Syracuse's only NCAA Championship win in 2003.

"This journey was challenging, but Syracuse felt right," Kiyan mentioned. Clearly overjoyed after Kiyan's choice, his mother La La Anthony remarked on the podcast, "I’m thrilled because my son is," emphasizing that despite the connection to Carmelo, it was important for Kiyan to carve out his path. La La, who shares Kiyan with ex-husband Carmelo, shared she found the alma mater’s approach and treatment toward Kiyan during recruitment to be both impressed and respectful.

Former NBA player Carmelo Anthony showed his enthusiasm for Kiyan's decision, encouraging him while allowing Kiyan ample room to make his own choices. Kiyan elaborated to ESPN about the unique blend of his father's connection and his independent experience with the staff, further affirming that his position wasn't merely honorary. Coach Adrian Autry, whom Kiyan has a solid rapport with, has inspired him through late-night talks about bringing their shared vision of greatness to Syracuse basketball. Despite busy off-seasons brimming with training, Kiyan remains committed to contributing his utmost both on and off the court. "It’s about building my own identity and meeting Syracuse's ambitions," he concluded.
