Chappell Roan Condemns "Predatory Behavior" from Fans

Chappell Roan has addressed the troublesome conduct she has been subjected to by people claiming to be her fans, The Hollywood Reporter writes. Despite feeling "more love than I ever have," the singer also expressed feeling extremely unsafe.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the "Good Luck, Babe!" artist, who has seen a rapid rise in fame over the past year, pleaded for an end to invasive behaviors. She requested, "Stop touching me," "Stop being weird to my family and friends," and "Stop assuming things about me."

Roan explained that after a decade of relentless work building her career, it's time to set boundaries. "I want to be an artist for a very, very long time," she wrote. "I’ve encountered too many non-consensual social and physical interactions and need to clarify that women don’t owe you anything. I am in this field because I love music, art, and honoring my inner child, and harassment shouldn't come with the territory."

She emphasized the distinction between her professional and personal life: "When I’m on stage, at a work event, or doing press, I am at work. At any other time, I am not obligated to reciprocate energy, time, or attention to strangers acting out of admiration. Women do not owe you an explanation for not wanting to be touched or talked to."

She expressed specific concerns about predatory behavior disguised as "superfan" excitement, a normalization stemming from how women in the public eye have been historically treated. Roan urged, "Please do not assume you know everything about someone’s life or boundaries just because you are familiar with their work online."

Highlighting her distress, she added, "If you’re wondering why I chose this career if I wasn’t comfortable with fame, know that I celebrate my success and the love I feel. What I do not accept are creepy antics, unwarranted touching, or being followed. I just want the same ordinary pleasures everyone deserves: hanging out with friends, going to the movies, and feeling safe."

In closing, Roan reaffirmed that her message does not influence her gratitude for those who respect her boundaries: "I appreciate my community's love and support. I reserve a significant part of myself for my career and fans, but there are private aspects of my life I wish to keep untouched. Thank you for understanding."
