Hoda Kotb on Fear as She Leaves Today Show, Embraces New Adventures
Hoda Kotb, the longtime host of the Today show, is on the brink of an impending career shift that she describes as both "terrifying" and "exactly right," PEOPLE reported. After dedicating 26 years to the program, Kotb announced her decision to leave, inspired by a desire for new beginnings as she turned 60 and reflected on what may be next in life. Her decision, partly motivated by a longing to spend more time with her daughters, Haley and Hope, accompanies a yearning for new adventures.
During the Oct. 25 episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, she explained that while she is emotionally prepared for the change, a part of her is still reconciling with the idea of departing from a beloved part of her life. Although financially settled and enjoying job security at NBC, she experienced an inner call toward an adventure she could no longer ignore, contemplating what she might miss by staying in her current role.
Seeking advice from close friends, including Maria Shriver, Kotb acknowledged her coworkers, such as co-host Jenna Bush Hager, for their steadfast support. She likened the career change to "repotting," where shifting life's foundation invokes uncertainty and excitement. Despite facing emotions of fear and exhilaration, Kotb’s enthusiasm contrasts her sadness by embracing the concept that it’s time for new experiences.
Kotb’s revelatory disclosure sees her embracing "a ride of a lifetime" with eagerness, reflecting on recognizing having reached a "peak" in her professional journey. Ready to explore further and fall in love with new prospects, she’ll continue working with Today into 2025 but looks forward to an undefined, exciting future.
