Hoda Kotb's Today Show Departure: Replacement and Final Episode Details
Hoda Kotb, aged 60, is set to leave NBC's "Today Show" on January 10, 2025. During the November 14 episode, she revealed, "That will be our party day. So, we’re gonna throw a party." Savannah Guthrie emphasized the show's commitment to celebrating Kotb, stating the "Today" team will "spend a whole week celebrating" her departure, US Weekly reported.
Craig Melvin receives the role of co-anchor alongside Guthrie. Guthrie noted the staff met the news with applause, indicating enthusiasm for Melvin's new position. Melvin, 45, expressed excitement and gratitude, declaring, "I want to, obviously, thank NBC and the folks here who deemed me worthy."
Melvin joined the "Today Show" in 2018 as a news anchor in the first two hours. He also co-hosts the third hour with Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer. Sharing about his support system, he credited his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, saying, been there for me from the beginning."
Kotb praised Melvin, telling him he was "made for this job" and conveying confidence in his abilities. In response, Melvin affectionately referred to Kotb and his female cohosts as his "sisters." Melvin expressed, "[Hoda], you’ve been the heart of this place for a long time. You helped save this show. … I’ll try not to screw it up!"
Starting January 13, 2025, Craig Melvin will officially take over as co-anchor. Meanwhile, the show will transition to "Today With Jenna & Friends," utilizing a rotating list of guest hosts until a permanent replacement for Kotb is appointed.
