Jenna Ortega Recalls Cameron Boyce's Support During Their Teen Audition
Jenna Ortega recently discussed her memories of Cameron Boyce, who passed away in 2019. She recalled a specific audition experience when both were teenagers.
Ortega and Boyce, known from their Disney Channel days, had an audition scene requiring a kiss. The now 21-year-old actress described how the situation felt awkward. "The last time I saw my friend Cameron Boyce — I’d known him since I was like 11 or 12," Ortega shared. She continued explaining that around 15 or 16, during a later audition, they both decided it didn't feel right to go through with the scene.
"I was having a hard time. It was so sweet because I was uncomfortable, and he spoke up for me," she said. Ortega expressed her gratitude, stating, "I was really thankful that he noticed."
Ortega's co-stars, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, praised Boyce for his act of kindness. They emphasized how he consistently displayed gentlemanly behavior. His thoughtful response left a lasting impact on Ortega.
Cameron Boyce tragically died in July 2019 at the young age of 20. The Los Angeles County coroner ultimately determined that his sudden death resulted from epilepsy affecting him. Cameron was found unresponsive at home, leading to an emotional outpouring from his family.
In a public message, the Boyce family expressed their heartbreak: "The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights." They asked for privacy, highlighting the deep loss felt by those who knew him.
Boyce began acting at nine and dedicated parts of his life to charitable work. He notably introduced former Vice President Biden at the Biden Courage Awards in March 2019. Following his passing, his parents, Libby and Victor, reflected on the significant impact their son had on others.
On what would have been Boyce's 25th birthday, they appreciated how fans had kept his memory alive. "Because of the love that Cameron receives, we can push his mission out," Victor explained, expressing gratitude towards those honoring his memory.
"It was bittersweet to see what he meant to so many people," Libby added. Both parents noted the mixed emotions surrounding the remembrance of their beloved son and the community’s ongoing efforts to celebrate him.
