Kim Kardashian Visits Menendez Brothers in Prison Amidst Netflix Series Controversy
Kim Kardashian has visited Lyle and Erik Menendez, who are serving life sentences for the 1989 murder of their parents, amid criticism surrounding a new Netflix series by Ryan Murphy, TMZ reported.
Lyle and Erik were convicted in 1989 of shooting their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills mansion. At the time of the crime, Lyle was 21 and Erik was 18. Kim’s visit to San Diego County’s Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, where the brothers are incarcerated. Kardashian spoke to inmates, including the Menendez brothers, about prison reform and an initiative to enhance prison yards with greenery.
Accompanying Kim were her sister Khloé, mother Kris Jenner, and Cooper Koch, the actor who portrays Erik Menendez in Murphy’s Netflix series "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story." Television producer Scott Budnick also joined them.
The Netflix series, released this week, has climbed to the top of the viewing charts. Erik Menendez recently criticized the show in a statement shared by his wife Tammi on X, calling it "dishonest" and claiming it perpetuates blatant lies about his elder brother, Lyle. He accused Ryan Murphy of poor intent, suggesting that the depiction of their lives set back the cause of male sexual assault survivors.
Murphy responded by insisting that Erik had not seen the show and emphasizing the creators' obligation to present a multifaceted view of the story, taking into account the perspectives of the parents as well.
At the series premiere in Los Angeles, Cooper Koch discussed the extensive research he conducted for his role, including watching the entire trial frequently to understand the men’s legal battle and defense claims.
Despite backlash, Kim Kardashian's visit appears to focus on her continued efforts in criminal justice reform, rather than any direct involvement with the series' controversy. Kardashian, a frequent collaborator with Murphy, has also been cast in his upcoming projects, marking another extension of her varied endeavors.
