Miley Cyrus Becomes the Youngest Disney Legend

Miley Cyrus, renowned for her role as Hannah Montana, became the youngest ever to be honored as a Disney Legend at the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, on Sunday, August 11. Overwhelmed with emotion, she teared up on stage while the audience cheered her on, People reported.

During her heartfelt speech, Cyrus mentioned she wrote two versions of her speech: a longer one showing her strength and a shorter one in case she felt nervous. She reminisced about the inception of Hannah Montana in 2005, humorously commenting she wasn’t engineered as the typical "Disney kid." Reflecting on her journey, she noted, "I had gotten a taste of what my life could be, and from that moment on, I did not want anything else."

Cyrus remarked that, while many things had changed, her pride in having been Hannah Montana remained constant. She dedicated the award to Hannah Montana and her devoted fans, expressing her gratitude by quoting a famous line, "This is the life."

Aside from Miley, other Disney Legends honored at the event included esteemed talents like Angela Bassett, James Cameron, Harrison Ford, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kelly Ripa, and John Williams, among others. Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, commended the honorees for their significant contributions to Disney's legacy.

Miley made her Hannah Montana debut in 2006 on the popular Disney Channel show, which aired for four seasons until 2011. The show portrayed Cyrus as Miley Stewart, an ordinary teenager leading a double life as the famed pop star, Hannah Montana. Beyond the series, she starred in "Hannah Montana: The Movie" released in 2009, and embarked on the Best of Both Worlds tour in 2011.

Celebrating her Disney journey, Cyrus acknowledged the mixed feelings when reviving her character, considering notable changes are needed to modernize Hannah. Reflecting on the 16th anniversary of Hannah Montana's premiere on social media in 2021, she attributed her global career and numerous performances to the unwavering support of her fans.
