Prince Harry and Meghan's Potential Home Purchase in Portugal
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly purchased a new summer home. Recent reports indicate the couple spent millions on a beachfront property in Melides, Portugal, a small town 81 miles south of Lisbon, US Weekly reported. Harry, aged 40, likely received the recommendation for the Costa Terra Golf & Ocean Club from cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, who have split their time between the U.K. and Melides since 2022.
The luxury golf resort, soon to be built, spans 722 acres and offers private villas, horseback riding, a wellness center, and beach access to Portugal’s Blue Coast.
The Duke and Duchess, aged 43, are not the only celebrities who have invested in the area, often referred to as the "Hamptons of Portugal." Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen owns a home nearby, while reports suggest that George Clooney and Sharon Stone have also bought properties in the vicinity of Harry and Meghan's new house.
Since their departure from the royal family in 2020, Harry and Meghan initially settled in Montecito, California. With security concerns arising after stepping back from their roles, they now seek safer environments. Portugal is considered one of the safest places in Europe, making it an ideal location for the family, which includes their two children, Archie, aged 5, and Lilibet, aged 3.
Royal expert Christopher Andersen, author of "The King: The Life of Charles III," provided insights on their intriguing home purchase in an exclusive chat with Us Weekly. Andersen noted that Eugenie’s husband "works for this community," labeling it as "a very posh area" in Portugal.
"It makes sense that they would want to buy a home there," Andersen remarked. Additionally, he mentioned a potential second reason for this purchase. By acquiring a property in Portugal, Meghan may be eligible for the Golden Passport. This Golden Passport provides access to various European countries. It is worth mentioning that Meghan has never held a British passport, suggesting more benefits to securing this investment.
Andersen elaborated, stating, "It can be essentially obtained through investment in Portuguese real estate." He contends that Harry and Meghan could significantly benefit from purchasing this home in Portugal and securing one of those passports. Whether this speculation comes true remains to be seen.
