Princess Kate Reflects on Moving Ballet Experience Amidst Cancer Recovery
Princess Kate Middleton has shared her profound experience of attending a ballet shortly after completing chemotherapy, People reported. At the age of 42, Kate surprised many by attending a matinee performance of Giselle by the English National Ballet at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre on September 26. Expressing her gratitude for the event, she shared on X: "Congratulations and thank you to @ENBallet and @Sadlers_Wells for the wonderfully powerful, moving, and inspiring performance of Akram Khan's Giselle. Creativity at its best!"
This appearance follows a video message from Kate on September 9, where she announced the completion of her chemotherapy. The Princess was diagnosed with cancer after undergoing major abdominal surgery in January, initially believed to be noncancerous. Post-surgery tests, however, revealed cancer, leading her to start treatment in March and take a hiatus from public engagements.
Throughout this challenging journey, Kate focused on her family's well-being, notably her children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, whom she shares with Prince William. She described their effort in explaining her condition to their children in an age-appropriate manner and reassured them of her eventual recovery.
Reflecting on her recovery, she acknowledged the difficult days following chemotherapy but also expressed gratitude for the good days when she could feel a bit normal and active. She has shared her learnings of patience and listening to her body, reinforced by recent appearances at events like Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon.
Kate shared her thoughts on her future while reflecting on the "complex, scary, and unpredictable" experience. Her priority remains to stay cancer-free, and while recognizing that recovery is ongoing, she looks forward to returning to her duties. True to her words, she resumed work, conducting a meeting for her Early Childhood Development project at Windsor Castle, which marked her first official engagement in the Court Circular for 2024.
Her keen interest in ballet remains unchanged, as shown by her visit to the Giselle performance, an event she enjoyed attending privately with her daughter Princess Charlotte in the past. While not a patron of the English National Ballet, her support underscores her longstanding passion for the art.
