Wayne Brady Plans a Spectacular Celebration for His Son’s 2nd Birthday

Wayne Brady's son Val is about to celebrate his second birthday, and the actor has exciting plans. Speaking with PEOPLE at the 2024 Bring Change to Mind Revels & Revelations event in Woodside, California, he shared his intentions for the festivities. Brady, who shares Val with ex-girlfriend Tina, emphasized that he likes to "blow things out of the water" when it comes to celebrations.

Brady expressed his desire to create a birthday experience that stands apart from Christmas, which also occurs around the same time. "I want him to have a birthday that is completely separated from Christmas," he said. He and Val's mom are discussing hosting a "big old party," which he humorously noted would be more for the parents than the kids.

In addition to birthday plans, Brady reflected on his parenting differences while raising Val and his daughter Maīle, who is 21. He acknowledged having a 20-year age gap between his children. Brady mentioned, "It’s a different energy level in parenting."

Having had Maīle at 30, he finds the physical demands of raising young Val a bit more challenging now. However, he believes his experience helps him be a better parent this time around. "I’ve been there once," he explained, noting that Maīle has recognized his growth as a father. "Maīle even laughs about it," he stated, mentioning that her perspective on parenting has shifted due to his learned skills.

In a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Brady discussed how his family's untraditional dynamics evolved into a healthy setup. He credited therapy for his family’s development, sharing that it played a significant role in their journey.

"Therapy and family, and it feels amazing," he said. His new reality show, "Wayne Brady: The Family Remix," documents this journey of living authentically. Discussing how much work went into understanding his family dynamics, he remarked, "It was a way of entering this second act of life of trying to live in authenticity."
