Cher Reflects on Val Kilmer and Rare Breakups in Her Life

Cher recently revealed that only a select few men have ever walked away from a relationship with her, US Weekly reported. During her appearance on "The Howard Stern Show" on November 20, she reflected on this interesting facet of her romantic life. The icon, now 78, was asked whether men "expect fabulous sex" from her, to which she confidently responded, "Yes — and they get it," acknowledging their enthusiasm.

When prompted by Howard Stern about why any man would ever leave her, Cher named Val Kilmer. "Few men," she remarked. "I was madly in love with Val Kilmer, and he left … because sometimes you’re meant to be with someone for only a short time. Val was really young." Cher and Kilmer shared a significant romance from 1982 to 1984 after meeting at one of her birthday parties.

Cher and Val Kilmer, who are 13 years apart in age, found a special bond together. "Val didn’t want to yell ‘Cher,’ and I didn’t want to yell ‘Val,’" Cher recounted fondly. She added that the couple would joke and call themselves "Valus Maximus and Cherus Reprimandus." This playful camaraderie became central to their relationship. Cher noted, "We became friends because we laughed at the same things constantly. He would sleep over, and it was just a friendship at first."

After their breakup, Cher and Kilmer remained friendly. In 2015, when Kilmer faced a battle with throat cancer, Cher invited him to stay in her guest house. Kilmer wrote about this supportive gesture in his memoir, "I’m Your Huckleberry." He recalled a harrowing night when he woke up vomiting blood. He remembered Cher stepping in to help while still managing to appreciate the unconventional moments, even amidst crisis.

Cher's romantic history includes two marriages: first to Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1969 and then to Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979. She shares son Chaz, 55, with Bono, who passed away in 1998, and son Elijah, 48, with Allman, who died in 2017. Currently, Cher is in a relationship with Alexander "AE" Edwards. Her enduring spirit and ability to maintain friendships with past partners highlight the complexity of her relationships over the years.
