Jennifer Lopez Files for Divorce from Ben Affleck on Their Anniversary Date
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially ending their marriage after two years. Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, which coincidentally is the second anniversary of their extravagant 2022 wedding in Georgia, People Magazine reported.
The two stars initially tied the knot in a private Las Vegas ceremony on July 16, 2022, rekindling their relationship from the early 2000s in September 2021. They celebrated their marriage a month later with a lavish affair on Ben's estate, attended by their children: J.Lo's twins Max and Emme (from her previous marriage to Marc Anthony) and Ben's children with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner – Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. This event was orchestrated by interior designer and event planner Colin Cowie, with Jay Shetty officiating.
Despite their attempts to make the marriage work, Jen has taken control of the situation. According to sources, she was deeply committed to the relationship and was heartbroken but felt compelled to move on as Ben did not show signs of wanting to salvage the marriage. Kids remain her top priority.
Court documents obtained by multiple outlets list their separation date as April 26, shortly before rumors of their split emerged. Notably, Lopez attended the 2024 Met Gala alone, marking the first public hint of troubles when Ben was reportedly busy filming in Los Angeles.
Though seen together occasionally after their separation, the couple was living apart and had placed their Beverly Hills estate on the market. The pair observed their second Las Vegas anniversary on opposite coasts without any public acknowledgment.
Ben's 52nd birthday provided a brief reunion where he chose to celebrate privately at home with his children, and Lopez stopped by to extend her wishes. Jennifer Garner also visited him earlier in the day. Lopez, focusing on her children, is ready to move forward, despite being disappointed and saddened by Ben's lack of initiative to continue their union.
