Liam Payne passed away at age 31, and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy attended the funeral on November 20, 2024. Her arrival came just over a month after his tragic death, and she was accompanied by their friend, Damian Hurley. Cassidy wore all black and sunglasses as a mark of respect, PEOPLE reported.

The funeral took place in a beautiful 12th-century church located in the English countryside, northwest of London. Family and friends were present for the emotional farewell. Among the attendees were his One Direction bandmates: Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan.

Cassidy and Liam were first linked in October 2022, maintaining a low-profile relationship. Nevertheless, Liam occasionally featured in photos and videos shared by Cassidy on her Instagram and TikTok accounts.

Following his passing on October 16, Cassidy shared that she and Liam had recently discussed their future together. She posted a note he had written, expressing his hopes to get engaged and married within a year. Cassidy remembered his words: "Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444."

In her heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed her devastation, stating, "My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words." She outlined the lasting impact Liam had on the world and their joyful moments together. Cassidy shared her struggle to accept the reality of his absence, saying it was hard to envision life without him.

She further added, "Liam, I know we'll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned." Cassidy concludes with a promise to carry their dreams and memories with her. This emotional tribute highlights the deep love they shared.

Damian Hurley, attending alongside Cassidy, expressed his grief on Instagram. He described Liam as "one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met," and extended condolences to Liam’s family and friends alongside his support for Cassidy.

Other notable attendees included Simon Cowell, who had a significant role in One Direction’s creation, alongside James Corden and ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole, the mother of his son, Bear.

Liam Payne's death resulted from an accident in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he fell from a hotel balcony. A preliminary autopsy confirmed he suffered multiple serious injuries. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office noted that he was likely not fully conscious at the time of the fall.
