Patrick and Brittany Mahomes' Son Bronze Experiences Severe Allergic Reaction
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes' journey with food allergies became particularly personal when their son, Bronze, experienced a severe allergic reaction, US Weekly reported. Being aware that their daughter, Sterling, has allergies to peanuts, milk, and eggs, the Mahomes were cautious as they introduced potential allergens to Bronze, who is almost two. Through a video created as part of a campaign with the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) charity and their own foundation, Patrick and Brittany recounted their harrowing experience of rushing Bronze to the emergency room.
Brittany shared how she had been carefully introducing new foods to detect any allergenic responses, reflecting on a terrifying incident with a small nut powder added to Bronze’s bottle. Shortly after consumption, he became extremely irritable, and upon removing his diaper, he was found covered in hives and welts. These symptoms rapidly intensified, eventually affecting his facial area and prompting immediate medical intervention.
Patrick, echoing his wife’s distress, emphasized the seriousness of the situation and expressed gratitude that medical professionals could provide timely assistance. Brittany, expecting their third child, had previously prepared by keeping Sterling's AUVI-Q epinephrine auto-injector close, although it luckily went unused.
Recognizing the pervasive challenge posed by food allergies – impacting 33 million in America – the Mahomes are working alongside FARE to foster better allergy education, especially in restaurants around Kansas City. The response on social media, featuring personal accounts of dealing with allergies, showed strong community support for their advocacy efforts. Patrick and Brittany hope to extend their campaign's reach and contribute towards more informed and safe dining experiences, emphasizing the indispensable necessity of carrying life-saving medications for accountability and reassurance.
