Taylor Swift's London Concerts Ticket Prices Soar after Vienna Cancellations
Tickets for Taylor Swift's upcoming concerts at Wembley Stadium in London have surged by almost 2,000% due to last-minute attempts by fans to secure seats, Daily Mail reported. Originally scheduled performances on August 8, 9, and 10 at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion were canceled after a teenager allegedly plotted a terror attack, prompting fans to shift their plans.
Initially, London concert tickets ranged from £58 for restricted view seats to £110 for general admission standing. However, prices on resale websites like Viagogo, Vividseats, StubHub, and Gigsberg have now soared, with standing tickets as high as £6,515 and the cheapest going for £416. Taylor Swift's shows in London will take place from August 15 to 20, each drawing an audience of approximately 90,000.
The Vienna concerts were canceled when a 19-year-old Islamic State supporter, identified as Beran A, allegedly planned to drive a vehicle into the crowd, attack them with knives and machetes, and detonate a bomb. This attack was plotted for 4 p.m., targeting the area filled with around 65,000 fans. Austrian authorities foiled the plot, but it raised significant security concerns.
In response to these concerns, London's Metropolitan Police have announced enhanced security measures for the upcoming London shows, which will include walk-through metal detectors. While there is no specific threat to the London events, they continue to closely monitor the situation. Mayor Sadiq Khan affirmed that the city is ready to host these high-profile events safely, reflecting the lessons learned from previous incidents like the Manchester Arena attack.
Concert promoter Barracuda Music confirmed the cancellations and promised refunds for all Vienna show tickets within 10 business days. Despite the unexpected changes, many fans appreciate Swift's dedication to their safety. Cancellation costs, part of Swiftonomics, are significant. Expert estimates state the Vienna cancellation might cost upwards of £136.5 million when considering broader economic impacts like travel and local business revenues. As Swift navigates her packed schedule and high-profile demands, whether she'll return to Vienna remains an open question. Swift's fan loyalty and possible rescheduling depend on future evaluations of safety and logistical viability
