Tom Cruise To Close Paris Olympics With Stunt Performance
It’s only fitting for an action movie star like Tom Cruise to take on the Olympic Games and perform a daring stunt. The 62-year-old actor, renowned for performing his stunts in films, has plans to participate in the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics. According to TMZ and inside sources, Tom will rappel down from the top of the Stade de France, ultimately landing on the stadium field with the organization's flag. The event will also feature some pre-recorded jumps and turns by the Top Gun star.
Performing death-defying stunts is second nature to Tom Cruise. In his latest film, "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two," he discusses the extensive preparation required for his heart-stopping jump off a cliff on a motorcycle, a challenge he spent years mapping out. Recounting his experience with Fandango, Tom remarked, "It’s not just the years prepping and figuring it out, but I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was a little kid. Parachuting, training, constantly developing knowledge, developing technology on how to shoot these things, and really how to tell a story."
The culmination of the Paris Games' closing ceremony and the official TV broadcast will stitch together live and recorded segments. Following his descent into the Stade de France, the broadcast will transition to a pre-recorded segment where Tom's journey takes him from France to Los Angeles with the Olympic flag. Within these pre-recordings, Tom skydives down to the Hollywood sign. Notably, during a Saturday morning in March, he was filmed performing the Hollywood skydiving stunt – remarkably going unnoticed mid-air, but captured afterward on the ground
Subsequently, the film will depict Tom passing the flag to a series of Olympians – including a cyclist, skateboarder, and volleyball player – who will carry it around Los Angeles, the next host city for the Olympic Games. Although logistical details for the stunt's French segment are being finalized, a stunt double might take over some of the action.
The driving force behind these thrilling feats, Cruise himself reportedly proposed the concept to the International Olympic Committee, aiming to create a sequence of stunts linking the Paris and L.A. Games. This ambitious endeavor marks another significant athletic engagement for Tom, reminiscent of his role in the 2004 Olympics, where he helped transport the torch through Los Angeles as part of the relay preceding the Athens Games.
Fans eagerly anticipate more adrenaline-pumping stunts from Cruise as he collaborates with Warner Bros. to produce new films under a freshly announced strategic partnership. A release from the actor on Instagram underscored this partnership stating, "Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Co-Chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca & Pam Abdy and Tom Cruise today announced they will jointly develop and produce original and franchise theatrical films starring Cruise in 2024 under a new strategic partnership between Cruise and Warner Bros. Discovery. Cruise and his production company will have offices on the Warner Bros. Discovery lot in Burbank."
