"Don't tell anyone": a bottle with a 1966 message from James Bond was found in the castle
A castle restoration project on the island of Jersey has led to an unexpected discovery inside the fireplace – a message in a bottle dating back to 1966. SSPDaily tells about it.
A post on the Jersey Heritage social network says that workers performing restoration work on the first floor of the officers' quarters at Elizabeth Castle unlocked the fireplace and found a message hidden in a bottle.
The note, dated February 26, 1966, reads: "Agent 007 James Bond. February 26, 1966. P.S. Secret agent. Do not tell anyone."
The back of the note reads: "EA Blampied," which may be a reference to the Jersey artist Edmund Blampied, who died in August 1966.
The note was written almost exactly two months after the release of Thunderball, the James Bond movie starring Sean Connery.
The bottle also contained pages 15 to 18 of the weekly newspaper Reveille, dated February 23, 1966.
"We need your help to shed some light on the mysterious note," Jersey Heritage wrote in their post. They asked anyone with information about the message in the bottle to contact them.
