Hidden Message from the Past Reconnects Two Generations

A man shared on Reddit that he discovered a 50-year-old riddle written behind his wallpaper while redecorating his home and managed to reconnect with the author nearly half a century later. Written in 1975 by Eileen Walmsley, the message read: "I am here, you are there, separated by time alone. What's it like in the future? Or am I the past? The only answer to that you are my future, I am your past. I wish you a good day." Eileen, who was a teenager when she wrote the message and is now in her 60s and goes by the name Eileen Palmer, was thrilled to find out that her poem had surfaced and brought joy to others.

After sharing the discovery online, the story sparked many users to share their own experiences with hidden messages. One commenter mentioned, "We did something like this when we papered my family's kitchen, probably around the same timeframe but before the mid-80s. One scribble read, 'How's your flying car?'" Another shared, "During my school leave exams in 2005 in Ireland, I found a cupboard with graffiti dated 1992. It seemed ancient to me, so I added my own and now it feels old to someone else."

Further adding to the nostalgic exchanges, a third person recounted a humorous family memory: "Once my parents drew the outline of a body on the carpet they were replacing just for laughs. The carpet guys gave us some strange looks." Highlighting the fun some find in these hidden notes, another user noted, "As a carpenter, writing weird cryptic nonsense for future readers inside walls is one of my passions. I'm sure I'm not alone in this."

The man and Eileen have now reconnected, thanks to the delightful reminiscence shared by a social media user about how Eileen wrote the riddle while her parents redecorated her room. The user commented, "The family who found the poem located her and have been in contact with her."
