People amused over mother-in-law's 'absurd' expectations for son's wife
A mother-in-law's list on how to be a 'better wife' has sparked controversy on social media, though not everyone sees it as problematic.
A woman shared this list, reportedly from her mother-in-law, titled "Lisa’s daily routine for becoming a better wife". The routine begins at 5.00am, requiring Lisa to prepare a breakfast of eggs, toast, bacon, and coffee by 5.30am. Exercise from 6.00am to 7.00am is mandatory to stay in shape, followed by cleaning the house from 7.30am to 9.30am.
The list demands daily laundry be completed by 10.00am. Lunch preparation should be done if her husband is home, otherwise prepared the night before. Dinner must be served by 6.30pm—no takeout allowed. Evenings are for serving drinks and snacks to her husband and any guests, while the house must be quiet by 9.00pm. Only after ensuring everything is perfect is Lisa permitted to go to bed at 10.00pm.
The list concludes: "Smile and be supportive no matter how tired you are because a good wife keeps the household stress-free!"
While the list aligns with the 'tradwife' movement, its 1950s-style expectations were largely criticized. One user exclaimed, "INSANE. OH I almost couldn't breathe from laughter oh my God ahahhaaaa." Another commented, "If I wanted a life this regimented I’d have stayed in prison." A third noted, "Do this stuff out of love, not obligation. If you don’t, it doesn’t mean you’re a ‘bad’ wife."
However, some saw value in the agenda. "I don’t see the problem with this. if she worked it would say work on her schedule," one person responded. Another noted, "Seems like an easy life if kids aren’t included. I'd manage this too if my schedule wasn’t occupied by kids and work."
The list continues to stir mixed reactions online, illustrating the varied perspectives on traditional domestic roles in modern society.
