Uber Passenger's Alarming Experience: Driver Watching Film While Driving
An Uber passenger turned to Reddit to share a troubling photo allegedly showing their driver watching a movie while on the road, which may explain a wrong turn and delayed arrival.
Reddit user Deep-Raspberry6303 posted the image in the r/mildlyinfuriating forum, noting that the Uber driver seemed to be watching a film during the ride. This may have caused the driver to make an incorrect turn and arrive late. The post garnered nearly 8,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments. It was titled: "I wonder why my Uber driver took a wrong turn and was late."
In the thread, one user commented: "I mean I’m pretty sure Uber has rules against watching movies while you drive. But maybe they don’t." Deep-Raspberry6303 confirmed that Uber does prohibit such activities, stating, "They most definitely do. I asked him to turn it off and then reported it." He further mentioned that the film playing was a 'Mission: Impossible' movie.
He also shared that the film was already playing when he entered the car and he clarified whether the driver had been watching it on his way to pick them up. Nonetheless, the movie continued playing as they started the journey, compelling him to request its removal.
"It was playing when I opened the door and sat down," he explained. "I had to ask him to turn it off." Uber has been approached for a comment on this incident.
The Reddit post sparked a discussion with others sharing their disturbing taxi horror stories. One recount mentioned, "Still not as bad as having a Grab driver who is doom scrolling TikTok and driving at the same time like I’ve encountered in the Philippines, oh and no seat belts." Another user added, "That happened to me several times. One of the worst rides is the driver doom scrolling on TikTok while his center console is playing an afternoon drama."
