Corn, a nutritious crop known for its ease of cultivation originating in Mexico, has gained popularity in Ukraine due to its abundance of various vitamins. However, to get a generous harvest with large ears, you need to choose the right time for planting. SSPDaily said that the lunar calendar can serve as a useful tool in determining the ideal dates for sowing this crop.
In regions where the soil warms up by mid-spring and maintains a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius or higher, corn can be planted directly into the ground in April. To ensure successful growth, it is advisable to refer to the favorable dates suggested by the lunar calendar. Accordingly, the recommended days for planting corn are the 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 25th, and 26th.
In regions where the soil remains cold, it is best to wait until May before planting corn. The lunar calendar offers other ideal dates for planting corn this month: 22, 23, 24, 30, and 31. In addition, in June, corn can be planted on the following dates: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 11, 19, 20, 26, 27, 28, 29 і 30.
To ensure proper planting of corn, it is important to plan the area in advance. Leave a distance of at least half a meter between it and other plants, and at least 100 centimeters between rows.
Prepare the soil for sowing by removing weeds and loosening the soil sufficiently. Before planting, carefully inspect the seeds to remove any damaged ones. For optimal germination, it is recommended to place the seeds in a single layer in sunlight or in a warm room for at least five days before sowing.
Dig holes about 4-7 centimeters deep and fill them with water so that it is completely absorbed into the soil. Then put a few seeds in each hole and cover them with soil. After that, make sure the soil is well watered.
To speed up the germination process, you can cover the area with plastic wrap. However, it is very important to remove it as soon as the corn begins to germinate to ensure unhindered growth.
