Couple rage at woman after she catches them trying 'business class' TikTok trend
A female solo traveler faced harassment and was labeled as 'cheap' on a flight for inadvertently upsetting a couple's effort to gain additional legroom by using a TikTok-promoted tactic. The trend, referred to on the platform as the 'poor man's business class,' involves two passengers booking a window seat and an aisle seat, leaving the middle seat hopefully vacant.
Usually, the solo traveler pre-selects her seat; however, due to a medical emergency on another plane, she boarded late and found the couple already engaged and trying to leave the middle seat empty by occupying the window and aisle seats. When she calmly claimed her middle seat, the couple's ruse fell apart.
"I told them I was meant to sit between them; the man rose to allow me in. Despite my offer for them to sit together, the woman snapped and insisted, 'you're not supposed to be here,’" the solo traveler shared on Reddit. Following her polite attempt to confirm her seating with a ticket presentation, the woman responded disdainfully. Adding fuel to the fire, the girlfriend accused the solo traveler of using a third-party booking site, insinuating she had paid less.
Attempting to de-escalate, the solo traveler placed on standby like everyone else, opted to ignore the belligerent remarks by donning her headphones. Yet, the hostilities persisted. "The woman constantly intruded on my space to communicate with her partner, clearly upsetting even him," she noted.
Other Reddit members acknowledged the girlfriend's disruptive 'air rage,' criticizing her immature, entitled behavior. Numerous users applauded the solo traveler's poised handling, with one remarking, "You are my hero for keeping it classy. I wouldn't have been as patient." Some shared that they've used the same tactic but always treated the third passenger courteously when their plan didn’t work. "Sometimes you gamble and win, sometimes you lose; this time they lost," a man summarized.
One commenter humorously theorized on the couple's seating choice, jocularly telling the boyfriend, "I can see why you didn’t want to sit next to her."
