Delivery Driver's Dire Warning to Dog Owners
A delivery driver has turned to Reddit to issue a stern warning to customers about the dangers posed by unrestrained dogs when expecting parcels, urging them to consider the perspective of delivery workers.
Initially an avid dog lover, the driver’s views shifted dramatically due to countless perilous encounters with aggressive dogs. "I used to love dogs. Always wanted one myself. But this job made me realise how dangerous these beasts actually are. I haven't been bitten yet, but I foresee an accident coming. Almost every house I deliver to has a barking dog that sounds like it's about to choke itself to death; it's insane," he commented.
The delivery worker shared several close calls where he narrowly avoided being attacked, expressing frustration over the typical reactions from the pet owners. One instance involved an owner failing to apologize after one of her three dogs attempted to attack him. "They always say, 'He's friendly' or 'he/she just wants to play!' Sorry, but my opinion on your dog is set, no matter what you say. For people that love dogs, I always tell them to try doing any sort of delivery service and see if you still like them," he said.
The driver expressed his frustration further: "I'm sick of people placing more importance on dogs than human lives. This ain't a joke, and countless people are being injured or even killed by dogs every single day. But who am I to say anything, dogs can never do any wrong," he noted sarcastically.
The post resonated with other delivery drivers and users on social media. One user commented: "I hate watching the videos on social media where dogs are scaring the s*** out of drivers and the owners think it's funny. Then you read the comments and they're full of the usual dog nuttery. Some people even say that you shouldn't be a delivery driver if you're afraid of dogs."
Another added their own experience: "I'm a delivery driver too and I completely get it. I actually used to be a dog person but started hating them before I took up the gig. Now I hate them even more. Hang in there, friend!"
Recounting personal trauma, a third noted: "I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. My dad's a mailman and a pit bull bit through his hand while he was doing his delivery rounds a couple of years back. The owner took no responsibility and instead tried suing USPS for my dad having defended himself and fighting off the dog. Dog owners can be ridiculous, dude."
