Life on the Road Makes More Sense – 1,989 Days Living in a Van
A couple devoted to van life were devastated when their home-on-wheels broke down and had to be taken away for repairs. As Scarlet of @scarletandseth recounted, it was day 1,989 of living in their van when they had to bid farewell to their beloved home, uncertain of when they'd see it again.
Over the years, the pair has experienced several breakdowns, but Scarlet referred to this as "by far the worst one." For three weeks, they hopped between hotels, depleting their savings and exhausting every possible solution. Their distress eased when friends offered them temporary accommodation in a second van, though it necessitated a 20-hour drive to California, where the unslumbered van awaited.
Despite this inconvenience, Scarlet and her partner Seth felt an immediate sense of homecoming, stating, "Life just makes more sense when we're living in a van." The quick transformation into feeling settled allowed them to breathe deeply and look forward with hope.
In a captioned update, Scarlet noted they might have to wait another 2-3 weeks to determine if a new cylinder head resolved the issue. If unsuccessful, a complete engine replacement would be necessary, a daunting prospect as there is no estimated time for securing an engine, leaving them potentially house-less for months. Meanwhile, she expressed gratitude to @courtandnate for their kindness in lending the replacement van. Reflecting her optimism, she dismissed dwelling on worst-case scenarios, determined to remain positive.
Comments from followers sent them even more encouragement, with one expressing relief that they had supportive friends and another sharing an empowering family motto, "Find a way."
Their experience is a testament to the resilience and community bonds formed through life on the road.
