Planting garlic in 2024: gardening tips
When planting garlic, it is important to consider the climatic conditions in your region and follow the recommendations of the lunar calendar. While winter varieties are usually planted in the fall, as they can withstand harsh weather conditions, spring varieties are more suitable for planting in the spring, SSPDaily reports.
Many experienced gardeners prefer spring planting because they expect a successful harvest. Unlike winter varieties, which can be sensitive to low temperatures, spring varieties have a more predictable growth process. However, it is important to note that spring varieties are less resistant to pests and diseases.
Determining the ideal time to plant garlic depends largely on both the lunar calendar and the specific climatic conditions of your area. Garlic is not a picky crop in terms of growing conditions, and it can be planted in the spring as soon as the soil temperature reaches +5 degrees Celsius or slightly higher.
Even if light frosts are expected, garlic can take root within a few days and withstand such conditions. Therefore, it is very important to take into account regional differences that may affect the appropriate planting dates.
For optimal results, it is recommended to plant garlic during the waning moon phase. In April, favorable days for planting garlic are from 1 to 11, as well as from 28 to 30.
Favorable dates for planting garlic include April 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 14, 18, 19, 25, 26 and 28. In May, the recommended days are 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 24, 27, 28 and 29. It is important to avoid planting garlic on less favorable dates, such as April 12 and 27, as well as May 11 and 26, to ensure optimal growth and development.
