Chris Bradbury Shatters Guinness World Record with Emoji Drone Show
Christopher Bradbury, a British drone enthusiast, turned his cancer journey into a groundbreaking pursuit, setting a new Guinness World Record for creating the most emoji shapes with drones within a three-minute timeframe. Bradbury first delved into the world of model aircraft in 2007, during his cancer treatment. This engagement helped him both physically and mentally, marking the start of his flight journey.
Over time, his exploration of drones evolved into a full-time career, which includes aerial filming for TV, performing surveying works, and experimenting with drone swarms. In June, above the skies of Shropshire, Bradbury orchestrated a captivating drone show, successfully forming 30 distinct emojis, eclipsing the prior record of 24 set by Sky Elements Drone Shows from the USA. His 109 drones animated the skies with sights of familiar emojis like the winking face, the poop symbol, the eggplant, the rocket, and the magnet.
The heart of the challenge lay in transitioning from one emoji to the next without any drones colliding—illustrating the complex three-dimensional spatial planning required. Bradbury aspired not only to break records but also to inspire others and contribute back to the drone community. He expressed a hopeful sentiment for the future: "I would love it if, in 10 years, my record is smashed, and it’s done by someone who says ‘I did it because I saw Chris Bradbury’s video.’ That would be amazing."
