Dogs and Owners Attend Film Screening in Vermont But Fall Short of World Record
An estimated 210 dogs and their owners gathered in Middlebury, Vermont, for a screening of Andy Mitchell's Netflix documentary, "Inside the Mind of a Dog", held at the Memorial Sports Center, Burlington Free Press reported.
The event, organized by Mitchell's nonprofit arts group, Middlebury Underground, aimed to break the Guinness World Record for the most dogs attending a film screening. The current record of 219 was set during a Los Angeles screening of "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie" in 2023.
Despite 280 pre-registrations, only 210 dogs were officially counted, missing the target by 10. Lisa Mitchell, the spouse of the director and one of the organizers, explained that organizers were still reviewing video footage to see if more dogs had attended without pre-registering. Various factors, including the remnants of Hurricane Debby and the requirement for proof of rabies vaccination, were cited as reasons for the lower turnout.
"We were 10 dogs short. It's disappointing, but the documentary reaching number three on Netflix's top-10 list has been a huge consolation," Andy Mitchell said. He added that they have made three attempts to break the record and look forward to trying again.
