Inspired by Family: Maryland Man Wins $50,000 Lottery Prize
A Maryland man’s brush with lottery luck can be traced back to his uncle’s $1 million win in the 1980s, which inspired him to buy the ticket that later earned him a $50,000 prize, Maryland Lottery reported. The resident of southern Anne Arundel County was moved by his uncle’s dedication to playing the same numbers weekly until he won the Maryland Lotto.
The winner, who often buys his lottery tickets at 24-7 Tobacco & Grocery in Edgewater, decided to use his uncle's commemorated numbers to try his hand at Powerball, Mega Millions, and Multi-Match – the game that replaced Maryland Lotto in 2006.
On August 7, while visiting the shop on Mayo Road, the man used a quick-pick line on his Powerball ticket. "My uncle played the same numbers every week until he won," said the fortunate player. Contrary to expectation, it wasn’t his uncle’s numbers but the quick-pick line that struck gold, winning him $50,000. "I saw that I won $50,000 on the screen. It was the first thing that popped up," he exclaimed.
Recollecting, he mentioned his late uncle had chosen to spread his winnings – $50,000 annually over 20 years. "This was very surprising," noted the lucky Powerball fan, who works in delivery services and is still deciding how to utilize his prize.
Future hopefuls can purchase Powerball tickets for the upcoming drawings in hopes of following a similar path to fortune. Enthusiasts stand a chance to win a share of the estimated $34 million jackpot or opt for the $16.8 million cash option. Furthermore, until September 3, buying a Powerball ticket might win participants a free $2 Mega Millions ticket, thanks to the Lottery's Jackpot Reset promotion.
