Before buying his $1 Cash 5 ticket using Online Play for the August 20 drawing, Vick had boldly told a man on his delivery route, "I’m going to win this one."
Vick described his decision to purchase the ticket as spontaneous. "It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing," he said. "I just decided to play out of the blue."
His prediction came true later that night, and Vick immediately shared the exciting news with a friend, who hugged him and started crying. Vick claimed his prize at the lottery headquarters on Monday, taking home $114,941 after federal and state tax withholdings.
