A bright fireball illuminated the early morning sky over New South Wales and Queensland. This meteor is believed to be quite large.
Residents reported seeing the bright fireball before 6 a.m. on Thursday. This has led to widespread speculation about the object’s nature.
Astrophysicist Brad Tucker from Australian National University spoke with 2GB radio host Ben Fordham. He noted that the object most likely was a meteor, highlighting that the green color observed indicates iron and nickel burning in the atmosphere.
Tucker mentioned, "It's unlikely fragments fell on the ground." He concluded, "It clearly covered a lot of distance in a short time. It seems to be a broken chunk of an asteroid entering Earth's atmosphere."
