Texas Woman's Tongue Certified as the World's Widest
A woman from Texas, Brittany Lacayo, has been recognized by the Guinness World Records for having the world's widest tongue (female), measuring 3.11 inches (7.90 cm) at its widest point. This width is greater than that of a hockey puck and nearly as wide as a credit card. One inch wider than its length, her tongue is the same size as the average length of an adult woman's entire tongue when measured from the epiglottis, a flap of cartilage located behind the tongue.
The record, previously held by Emily Schlenker whose tongue measured 2.89 inches (7.33 cm) wide, remained unbroken for 10 years until Brittany's recognition. Brittany, who works as an attorney, recalled that her uniquely wide tongue had always been a topic of family jokes during her childhood. She was inspired to measure her tongue and apply for the record after a friend sent her a video of the former record-holder, Emily Schlenker.
Brittany receives reactions of "shock" and "curiosity" when people see her tongue, although she has not shared this fact with her colleagues. Commenting on her distinctive achievement, Brittany said, "It is neat and kind of funny."
The male counterpart of this record belongs to Brian Thompson, whose tongue measures 3.49 inches (8.88 cm) wide. The former holder of this record was Byron Schlenker, Emily’s father. Brittany's remarkable record joins other unique achievements, such as fellow attorney Alexander Capogna's record for the most chest-to-ground push-ups in one hour with a total of 1,246.
