Bartender Reveals Truth About 'No Ice' Orders
A bartender has taken to social media to address a common misconception about drink orders involving ice. Michelle Raleigh, known as @michellebellexo on TikTok, explains the reality for customers who request their drinks "no ice," hoping for more alcohol.
In her video, Michelle role-plays a customer asking for a vodka cranberry without ice. She complies, preparing the drink without additional ice but following the same measurement guidelines. Upon presenting the drink, she notes the customer's disappointment when the glass is not filled to the rim, leading her to explain why.
Michelle clarifies, "When you ask for no ice, you actually receive more mixer. Ice takes up space in the drink. I didn't fill it all the way up to let you taste the liquor." She further suggests, "If you want a stronger drink, you can pay for a double, and I’ll add another shot."
Other bartenders chimed in to support her claims. One commented, "Yes exactly. I don’t get how people don’t understand we pour the same amount for all mixed drinks." Another added, "Ma'am, this isn’t McDonald's. That no ice trick isn’t going to work." A third bartender shared insights on German bar culture, explaining that "in Germany, we do get more booze if the card indicates 0.5 liters without mentioning ice." Finally, another user chimed in with a similar experience from a previous bar job.
