Nokia Enthusiast Owns the World's Largest Collection of Mobile Phones
A devoted Spanish Nokia enthusiast, Wences Palau Fernandez, holds the Guinness World Record for amassing 3,615 unique cellphones. Wences, a resident of Barcelona, was initially captivated by Nokia when he received a gray Nokia 3210 as a Christmas gift in 1999. His collection journey began in earnest in 2008, focusing initially on Nokia models he couldn't afford earlier.
Over time, his collection outgrew a display cabinet and took over an entire room as he included other brands and prototypes alongside commercially unlisted phones. His documentation effort, titled Nokia Project Dream, showcases his extensive catalog, further enhanced by his dedication even after a brief hiatus. By 2018, his assortment boasted over 700 different Nokia models, including rare and exclusive versions like Star Wars Ep III’s Yoda, Starfighter, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cyborg, and Padawan editions.
Wences' collection also features phones from Siemens, NEC, Motorola, Blackberry, Samsung, HTC, Apple, and more. Despite the significant perseverance and financial effort invested, he continues expanding his incomplete but substantial collection. Proudly exhibited in his home, which he likens to a museum, Wences shares his progress online: "Gathering every terminal Nokia manufactured is challenging, but with over 700 models, my collection is notable even before completion."
This remarkable accumulation surpassed the previous record of 3,456 phones set by Andrei Bilbie Argentis of Romania in 2023. Realizing the potential public value of his collection, Wences decided to reveal it, expressing that this labor of love embodies the trials faced and a quest that continues whenever possible.
