Raccoons Overrun Washington Woman’s Property
A woman from Poulsbo, Washington, ended up contacting authorities when nearly 100 raccoons gathered around her home. For approximately 35 years, she has regularly fed raccoons near her property. However, about six weeks ago, an overwhelming number of these animals suddenly arrived.
According to a spokesperson from the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office, "The woman says the raccoons often surround her day and night demanding food." She also mentioned that she received quotes as high as $500 per raccoon to trap and remove them.
In response to her situation, deputies directed her to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. This department put her in touch with local wildlife control professionals to help address the raccoon issue.
The state's wildlife website warns, "Feeding raccoons may create undesirable situations for you, your children, neighbors, pets, and the raccoons themselves." It reminds people that raccoons accustomed to human food may lose their natural fear of people and could become aggressive when food is not provided.
