Residents of This Small US Town Are Known for Celebrating UFO Incident Every Year
For nearly 60 years, the small town of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, has been famous for one peculiar reason – the UFO incident of December 9, 1965. On that night, a massive 'fireball' was seen streaking across the skies of seven states in the US and Canada, eventually crashing in the woods near Kecksburg. This is prepared by SSP.
Local residents swiftly heard the sensational news and were convinced that a UFO had landed in their town. The unusual acorn-shaped object, later dubbed the 'space acorn,' sparked a flurry of speculation. Although the US government quickly clarified that the object was a meteor, the intrigue remained.
To this day, the Kecksburg community continues to commemorate the mysterious event with an annual three-day festival organized by the Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department. This lively celebration includes activities and market stalls selling alien and UFO-themed memorabilia, creating a carnival-like atmosphere.
Christine Soltis from Soltis Nice Guy Productions shared her enthusiasm for the festival, "I love it. I was here last year. There’s so much alien stuff—you can get big balloons and stuffed animals. It’s just awesome." The excitement of attendees reverberates through the weekend, affirming how deeply ingrained the tradition has become in Westmoreland County.
Additionally, the celebrated acorn has gained a bit of fame itself. A reproduction of the object once featured on "Unsolved Mysteries" now sits proudly at the Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department. One recent visitor commented on Reddit, "This is really awesome, I enjoyed it greatly! It was almost like a flea market with vendors selling alien/UFO themed stuff! I got a great poster of the Kecksburg Acorn shaped UFO at its crash site - 10/10; truly awesome! Wished I could have been there for the other two days!"
