South Carolina Man Wins $2 Million with Michigan Lottery’s $2,000,000 Mega Multiplier
Michael Buckner, a 58-year-old resident of South Carolina who works in Escanaba, Michigan, experienced a stroke of luck when he opted to purchase lottery tickets instead of visiting a casino, Michigan Lottery reported. This decision resulted in a $2 million win in the Michigan Lottery’s $2,000,000 Mega Multiplier instant game. Buckner bought the winning ticket at Gladstone Mobil, near Escanaba.
Reflecting on his decision, Buckner remarked: "I live in South Carolina, but I work in Escanaba. I was trying to decide between going to the casino or buying instant tickets and ended up deciding to buy instant tickets. When I scratched off the $2,000,000 Mega Multiplier game and saw I won $2 million, I didn’t think it was real. I called my girlfriend to tell her what I won, but she didn’t believe it either. It still hasn’t fully sunk in!"
He collected the prize at Lottery headquarters, choosing a one-time lump sum of approximately $1.3 million. Buckner aims to use his winnings to pay bills, support his family, and bolster his savings.
The $2,000,000 Mega Multiplier game, launched in September, has awarded over $12 million to players, offering prizes from $20 up to $2 million. Despite Buckner's big win, over $96 million in prizes remain available, including two top prizes of $2 million. In 2023, the Michigan Lottery generated nearly $1.8 billion in winnings from instant games, significantly contributing to the state's School Aid Fund for the sixth consecutive year.
