Spider-Man: Polish climber arrested after unauthorized skyscraper expedition in Buenos Aires
Marcin Banot, a 36-year-old daredevil and social media influencer from Poland, made headlines when he was apprehended by Argentine police after attempting to climb the towering 125-meter Globant Tower in Buenos Aires. The fearless climber, known for his death-defying exploits, undertook the risky ascent without any safety equipment in an unauthorized adventure that captured the attention of onlookers and authorities alike.
Sporting an Argentine national football team jersey, Banot's daring act came to an end when he was detained on the outside of the building's 25th floor, just five floors away from his ultimate goal. It should be noted that this was not Banot's first attempt on the skyscraper, as he had previously been intercepted by the local police during a similar endeavor.
The mesmerizing events unfolded in full view of a rapidly gathering crowd at the base of the Globant Tower, heightening the drama surrounding Banot's audacious climb. The situation took a serious turn when a concerned insider within the building promptly alerted emergency services. Responding to the call, over 30 firefighters, multiple ambulances, and a fleet of police cars promptly arrived at the scene. Banot, known for his compliance, did not resist arrest.
However, the repercussions of Banot's thrilling spectacle may extend beyond his arrest. Jorge Macri, a prominent local government official, took to social media to express his intention to seek financial compensation for the entire rescue operation. Consequently, Banot may find himself saddled with significant financial penalties.
In a legal twist, the prosecutor's office has charged Banot with violating the peace of a home or commercial premise, a crime that carries a potential prison sentence ranging from six months to two years. This comes as another setback for the daredevil climber, who had previously faced legal repercussions for a similar undertaking atop the Montparnasse Tower in Paris, where he received a suspended prison term following trial.
